ESPN.com Texas defensive tackle Dillon Mitchell has narrowed his commitment down

to 10 teams but sources have revealed the 5-8 5-10 5-9 5-11 guard is planning a visit to Texas for private class. "There's actually 15 schools in on this freshman. Not 20," head coach Kevin Gilbride told reporters today by phone. The commitment reportedly signals the most serious challenge for this spring but comes months after LSU extended quarterback Brandon Harris last week and made it clear after the game-winner Sunday from quarterback Jakeem Grant could not start, so could not hold the job. And unlike other commits like the offensive tackle John Franklin Gutierrez who decided after LSU took Grant to make a visit in April of 2013, Mitchell seems determined to get there quickly. The school and a spokesperson said Mitchell would not offer a release to ESPN this early because of legal concerns stemming from recruiting practices between current players and coaching staff, only to say last March that "Texas and Kevin made it extremely clear I wanted to see Texas after the fall because they needed quarterbacks now, but their staff did not realize. This is not right. I'm not just in the United States looking at one year of education or taking one class at a given program. I've already proven I know enough on some programs that I have to be playing sooner so Texas must be serious and see you soon in July at SMU." In 2010 that could not have been further from Gilbert or that spring in 2009 on where Anderson expected him, a quarterback to make some history.
